Cookies Policy
Last updated: 6 June 2026
This policy explains the cookies and similar browser storage used by https://www.indieebooks.com, in line with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR. The honest summary: we use almost none, and nothing for advertising or tracking.
1. What we use and why
Shopping cart (browser local storage, key "indie_cart_v2"). When you add an eBook to your cart, the cart is saved in your own browser's local storage so it survives page changes and return visits. It contains only the books you chose and never leaves your device until you choose to check out. It is cleared automatically after a successful purchase, or whenever you empty your cart or clear your browser data. This storage is strictly necessary to provide the shopping basket you asked for.
Session cookie ("PHPSESSID"). When you use the My Downloads page, a standard temporary session cookie is set so we can rate-limit verification attempts and protect purchase records from guessing attacks. It contains a random identifier only, and expires when you close your browser. This cookie is strictly necessary for security.
Because both items are strictly necessary for services you explicitly request, PECR does not require a consent banner for them - which is why you won't see one.
2. What we do not use
We set no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, no social media trackers and no fingerprinting. We do not use cookies to follow you around the web.
3. Third-party cookies during checkout
Payment takes place on PayPal's own website. While you are on paypal.com, PayPal sets its own cookies for security and fraud prevention under its own cookies policy, which you can read at paypal.com. We have no control over, and no access to, those cookies.
4. Cover images
Book cover images are served from our own domain through a local cache, so viewing them does not expose your browsing to any third-party image host.
5. How to control cookies and storage
You can clear or block cookies and local storage through your browser settings (usually under Privacy or Site Data). Note that blocking storage for this Site will stop the shopping cart from working, and clearing it will empty your cart. Guidance for all major browsers is available at ico.org.uk.
6. Changes
If we ever introduce new cookies - for example, analytics - we will update this page first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before setting them.
